Geographical Information System (GIS) and Mapping
Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) are evolving technologies with enormous potential for contributing to the spatial studies of human activities at global and local environment. Satellite imageries and aerial photographs are some of the widely used data sources for GIS applications, which make it possible to take spatial observations of the Earth’s surface at repetitive intervals, and consequently allow monitoring of the changes. Satellite data provides a synoptic view and covers large areas; and therefore, high resolution satellite data (WorldView I, II& III and KompSat3 etc.) makes it more cost effective for better spatial planning and decision making.
ICT has been using GIS and Remote Sensing technologies for feasibility and DPR projects in highways engineering and city transport network planning studies, desk studies for marking new alignments for highways, railways, electrical towers sitting and pipe line network studies. In addition, GIS applications have been extensively used for urban and regional planning studies, watershed management studies, environmental management and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies. GIS Group has also been involved in Technical Assistance studies for Capacity Building and Institutional Strengthening on GIS applications, Development of web based applications, Preparation of comprehensive city development plans, Generation of DEM using stereo pairs, Large scale base maps & land use maps and Terrain analysis etc. ICT has high level technical resources (both hardware and software) along with highly qualified expert professionals having extensive knowledge and experience to work on such digital/spatial data. Various national & international projects have been successfully completed using a wide range of data including satellite imageries, aerial photographs and GPS guided topographical surveys.
