Brief Project Description:
There is a network of National Highways connecting North-South
from Kashmir to Kanyakumari comprising NH-1A, 1, 2, 3 and 7 and
East-West from Silchar to Saurashtra comprising NH-37, 31, 28,
25, 26, 14 and 8. These arterial National Highways carry a very
heavy volume of traffic resulting in their poor condition, which
leads to frequent number of accidents. These sections of National
Highways need immediate widening and improvement. The project
includes providing of wayside amenities, road signs, road markings,
fencing along the roads through urban and semi-urban settlements,
safety barriers, landscaping etc. About 262 km length of National
Highways divided in 20 packages of approximately 10 to 15 km length
each in various states of the country have been taken up for strengthening
and rehabilitation of existing two lane carriageway and construction
of new two lane carriageway. ICT has been awarded 6 packages (totaling
71 km of road length) for construction supervision, which has
also included acting as 'Engineer' for certain sections of
the Project
Estimated Project Cost is US $ 42 million.
Brief description of services provided:
The project involved the construction supervision of various
sections of National Highways as part of development of North-South
and East-West corridors (Phase-I) in the states of Rajasthan,
Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. The scope included
assistance to the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of National
Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in the administration and management
of the project, preparation of technical specifications. In addition,
ICT reviewed the contractor's detailed work program and suggested
modifications, reviewed the construction methods proposed by the
contractor, provided assistance to the engineer in planning of
all bituminous / concrete works, design mix of pavement concrete,
reviewed the system of quality assurance of the contractor, the
tests being carried out by staff of the engineer / contractor
and undertook additional tests as necessary. ICT was also responsible
for providing assistance to the Engineer on technical supervision
of works, preparation of updated and additional drawings, scrutinizing
and advising the engineer regarding contractor's working drawings
and drawings for temporary works, providing assistance and advice
to the Engineer during review of progress of work, assistance
to the engineer in the monitoring progress of works, preparation
of financial statements, finalizing 'as-built' drawings and maintaining
all test data and results as well as regular inspection of contractor's
equipment installations. ICT also performed examination of the
monthly statements of contractors, with regard to quality of work
and record of certificate thereon and other construction supervision
activities.
